There are many different types of vegetables in Japan, the fruit and vegetable section of a Japanese supermarket looks a lot different to the supermarkets I shop at in England.

Rolled Cabbage

In Japan we usually use cabbage as the wrapping for this dish. In England I haven’t been able to find a leaf which is soft enough so on this occasion I used Hakusai (Chinese leaf). It worked so well that I will probably use it more often in this dish.

I’ve simmered the dish in a simple chicken stock, but you could try different stocks, Kimchi stock is also very nice.

Kumiko’s Kitchen - update

My husband has updated Kumiko’s Kitchen so that I can post on more than just my latest food recipes. I’ll be moving back to Japan in a few months time, so will be able to write more recipes, ingredients and Japanese food posts, I’m looking forward to this new start, I hope to show you more of my country!

Korean food is one of my house’s favourite cuisines, Reimen Noodles make a good light lunch or dish to eat after having yakiniku (Korean BBQ). In this recipe I have topped with egg, cucumber and cha sui pork, I will create the char sui recipe soon!
