About Kumiko
Hello and thank you for visiting my Japanese recipe blog. After living in England for about 4 years I’ve now returned to Japan, I now live in Tokyo. I love to cook Japanese food as well as other Asian food, such as Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese. If you have any questions please contact me using the contact form on this site or leave a comment!
About The Recipes
A lot of the recipes featured on Kumiko’s Kitchen are very simple to prepare and make. The purpose of these recipes are to introduce people to Japanese food and cooking. I think many people can start to enjoy cooking Japanese and Asian food, just by knowing what all the ingredients are, and in what combination and quantity to use them in.
About The Photography
All the recipe pictures found on Kumikos Kitchen are taken by my husband. More examples of his work can be found at travel folio , which is a photo travel blog which covers Japan, Asia and Europe.
About Kumiko’s Kitchen
Kumiko’s Kitchen Began life as a few pieces of paper. Tired of the never ending build up of those little bits of paper, my husband took action and put together ‘Kumiko’s Online Recipe Book’. Those little bits of paper still remain, to the annoyance of my husband, but he is happy to say that, ‘its a nice little site, which I hope grows into something popular.’…
Thanks for visiting, come again
Kumiko

Great site! My wife is from Akita, and cooks wonderful Japanese food. But she’s gone back to Japan for a few months to visit her family, and I miss her cooking so much that I’m trying to cook them, but it’s harder than it looks… That’s where your website helps!

Thanks, I hope you can surprise your wife with your new cooking skills when she gets back!

What a great site Kumiko. Do you know where I can get dried squid in the UK ?
Kumiko - 29/01/ 09 @ 4:45 pm
Dried Squid in the UK. That might be difficult, you could try any of the online shops. Japan Centre, Japanese Kitchen or Mount Fuji.

I absolutely love your site. I was deployed in Japan for 5 years, and upon returning to the United States I found myself greatly missing a lot of the food I had grown used to. Thank you so much!

Hi,
I went to japan for a couple of weeks in May and loved the food.
Just wondered if you had a recipe for the type of street raman that is everywhere.
Thanks
Laverna Satterfield - 21/08/ 09 @ 8:21 pm
Can you please tell me what strong flour is? I see it in one of your recipes and just this evening a friend, who is an experienced cook, saw another recipe that called for it and asked if I knew what it is.
I have never heard of it before.

Hi Kumiko,
I love Japanese food. I am from South Africa and lived in japan for 2 years. I often had Saizeria spaghetti Bolognaise with meat sauce.. and I loved it. I know it is not a traditional Japanese dish but the way the Japs prepares it makes it 10 times better than the SA way…
Please publish the recipe..
Kind regards
Willy

Hi Kumiko,
I’m hoping that you can help with a recipe. As far as I know the dish is a typical northern Japanese recipe. The meal is in a large bowl with potatoes, cabbage, onion and sweet corn layered in that order. On the very top of the vegetables there’s different kinds of fish.In the bowl is a stock I think consists of miso with some butter. The method was to cook this on the table, the potatoes cooked first and the the cabbage slowly sinks into the stock and so on with the fish cooking last. Once all the ingredents are cooked you begin to eat.I tried to cook this however it was only from my memory of being served this in Japan once. My question is do you know this dish and what is the correct way to cook it ?
I hope you will be able to help thank you in anticipation of your help.
Regards Carl
