Okahijiki in Soy Sauce

a one minute Japanese side dish

This is a simple side dish for serving along side a main meal. Blanche in hot slightly salty water for 30 seconds, then serve with a dash of soy sauce. I don’t know much about Okahijiki, heres the Okahijiki wiki

Cheap Japanese style pottery

100k digital web pen camera silver

Since I’ve been back in Japan I’ve been busy buying various things for our new home, here are some of the dishes that I’ve bought recently. Both me and my husband like the pottery in Japan. Rather than having dishes of a similiar series, like wedgewood or portmeirion (which my mother-in-law likes) it’s common to mix dishes. The majority of the dishes in the picture were bought for just 100yen from the ‘hyaku yen store’. Hyaku yen is about 1 US dollar or 50p in the UK.

430 camera digital hp photosmart series I’ve been back in Japan for four months now, In that time I’ve really neglected this site. Sorry for that (-人-). Things have settled down now, so I will be spending more time cooking, and adding recipes to the site!

What’s New?

  • I’ve just joined twitter, It looks like a fun way to share my own recipes and those that I find on other peoples sites. I’ll also be posting general food pictures, eating out etc. The other stuff that doesn’t make it onto this website. View my twitter account
  • I’ll be adding a Japanese section to the website mechanism of death due to fosamax . If your Japanese or interesting in learning the Language you may be interested.
  • My husband often helps me in the kitchen with ‘the cooking’, he’ll be adding a peter’s kitchen section to the site. Showing his own recipes (expect lots of kimchi rice!) and his experiences of living and eating in Japan (Meiji chocolate and potato chips).

Do you use twitter, do you tweet, are you a tweeter?

Saizeriya - Japanese Family Restaurant

Saizeriya, a cheap and cheerful Japanese Italian ‘Family Restaurant’

I’ve been back in Japan for around a month and a half. One of the biggest difference between England and Japan are the the restaurant prices and the quality of food. I enjoyed English food in general, but for a meal in England it would probably cost a lot less in Japan.

Korean food is one of my house’s favourite cuisines, Reimen Noodles make a good light lunch or dish to eat after having yakiniku (Korean BBQ). In this recipe I have topped with egg, cucumber and cha sui pork, I will create the char sui recipe soon!
